Becoming a Foster Parent

Who Can Be a Foster Parent?

  • At least 21 years of age

  • Legal resident of US

  • Be able to pass a background check that checks for abuse and domestic violence

  • Have a high school diploma/GED

  • Have been married, divorced, single, or widowed for at least a year.

  • Show proof of financial stability

  • Have a driver’s license, auto insurance, and a vehicle in good condition with room to transport passengers safely

  • Complete a SCS application and be willing to provide all documentation needed per standards and SCS policies

  • Complete all necessary training prior to licensing

  • Have at least 40 square feet of bedroom space per child in your home

  • Pass a home study assessment

  • Your home must pass health and fire inspections

  • Be able to maintain yearly training requirements


Steps to Become a Foster Parent

  • Fill out an inquiry and we will contact you (have inquiry as a link to the inquiry page)

  • Complete an application

  • Attend training

  • Participate in Home study and assessment

  • Your home is ready to be verified with the state

  • Accept a child into your loving home
